What to watch

In addition to my recommended reading, below are one or two online videos and a link to John Scott’s DVD which I found invaluable for learning the Primary Series sequence of asanas. The pace of John’s instruction I found to be perfect – though some may say that the length of his inhalations and exhalations require vey good lungs! I’ll continue to add to this page as I discover more videos. I would also recommend following @AshtangaDaily on Twitter for a daily roundup of Ashtanga news and media from around the Internet.

John Scott - The Primary SeriesAshtanga Vinyasa Yoga, The Primary Series is a valuable practice guide for the beginner through to Full Primary level practitioner. Take a 15 minute class with John Scot and begin your personal yoga journey, or follow John through a complete 90 minute Full Primary Series.

John Scott is an inspired and advanced practitioner of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. He’s has been a direct student of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, South India since 1989. Certified to teach by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, John’s teaching is very precise and follows the traditional method of counting through the correct vinyasa for each asana.

The biography from John Scott’s own site:

John incorporates design philosophies with yoga philosophies adding a very precise, detailed and colourful metaphorical presentation to his teaching.

His highly individual, analytical and sensitive approach touches deeply the students who work with him – resulting in a strong following. John now mainly teaches “Mysore Style” and “Vinyasa Counting” at Stillpoint with Lucy. Stillpoint is the 3rd Centre that John and Lucy have created together while parenting two children.

They have been pioneers in the yoga world travelling many times to Mysore with two babies. John and Lucy’s teaching reputation is world-wide, presenting workshops internationally for the past 15 years. John, with Lucy, has produced a best-selling book, “Ashtanga Yoga”, and a counted primary series DVD, and is currently writing a series of books based on his personal experience of this practice (suitable for all levels of practitioner).

This is a great opportunity to practice with a teacher who teaches from the heart. Join in and practice with John’s dynamic balance of strength and grace, share his knowledge and enthusiasm for passing on the joys and techniques of this ancient form of yoga.
