Really thrilled to be booked onto David’s teacher training course next Spring. The very first workshop I attended – after far too short an introduction to Ashtanga – was with Danny Paradise. Like the David Swenson week, this was organised by Yoga Manchester (October 2010). Whilst I got a lot out of it, I really was such a complete novice, that I’m sure also ‘missed the point’ for much of the weekend.
I’m determined to make the most of the week with David in May, so I’ll be attending Mysore Intensives with Matt Ryan for one week each month between now and then. I’ve recently stepped up to a daily practice from around three or four times per week (and I’m feeling very much better for it). What I want to be particularly careful about, is avoiding the temptation to push too hard, too soon. I’ve heard too many horror stories about knee operations and substantial time away from the mat as a result of over-enthusiasm.
Whilst I managed Padmasana for the first time about two weeks ago (yippee!), I intend to back off a little until my knees are a little closer to the floor in Baddha Konasana, to ensure that the rotation is coming from the hips, not the knees. That said, it’s fantastic to have a goal and next May gives me lots of time to progress.
