As I mentioned on the site’s home page, I’m booked in for a weekend workshop and a week of teacher training with David Swenson next May. This is a good thing. It’s an excellent motivator on those days when the sofa, or an extra couple of hours in bed, feels like the right choice. Why? Because I don’t want to always be the dunce in the corner.
Now, this is almost certainly at odds with everything yoga is about. Firstly, ...

Other than the Mysore Intensive with Yoga Manchester’s Matt Ryan last month, I’ve been getting as far as Navasana and then going into a shortened finishing sequence of Sarvangasana, Halasana, Karnipadasana, Urdhva Padmasana, Pindasana (kinda!), Sirsana, Ardha Padmasana and Savasana. This is lazy and I’m conscious that I need to work harder.
Not only am I not doing enough overall practice, I’m also avoiding asanas that I don’t like or execute badly – most notably Bhujabidasana, Kurmasana, Garbha Pindasana, Upavishta ...

I’m not sure which was the biggest thrill, being able to slide quite easily into Padmasana and lift myself into Tolasana for the first time or seeing my 13 year old son (left) having a go (also for the first time) and making it look so easy!
I’m certain that years of running have taken their toll on my flexibility and that pushing too hard, too soon into Padmasana has been the cause of the pain I’ve been feeling since mid November at ...

I’ve been playing with the ideas in this track for a couple of weeks now (on and off).
I cannot praise Sardinia Yoga highly enough. The organisation, instruction, venue and small group practice was flawless. The hotel was beautifully situated and early morning yoga by the sea under a clear blue sky set everybody up for days filled with swimming, snorkelling and running – or doing nothing at ...

Really thrilled to be booked onto David’s teacher training course next Spring. The very first workshop I attended – after far too short an introduction to Ashtanga – was with Danny Paradise. Like the David Swenson week, this was organised by Yoga Manchester (October 2010). Whilst I got a lot out of it, I really was such a complete novice, that I’m sure also ‘missed the point’ for much of the weekend.
I’m determined to make the most of the ...

I guess I’m mixing my culinary metaphors in the post title, but recent noodling has taken a distinctly Asian direction. I must have been inspired by music I listen to during yoga self practice, and I’m particularly drawn to the sounds of the tabla and other Indian percussion instruments.
This is a track I’ve finished for the second album. As yet, both the album and the track are untitled. There’s not a huge amount I can say about it. ...

Are you looking for something to brighten up your yoga studio? Do you have trouble remembering the Primary Sequence? If so, here’s a handy wall chart featuring Matt Ryan of Yoga Manchester. I still occasionally come unstuck after Navasana – memory like a sieve – so this is a really useful quick reference.
Ever the slave-driver, I notice Matt’s omitted Savasana from the wall chart. No rest for the wicked, eh? Seriously though, Matt’s an excellent teacher. If you can’t ...
