Dunce in the corner

DunceAs I mentioned on the site’s home page, I’m booked in for a weekend workshop and a week of teacher training with David Swenson next May. This is a good thing. It’s an excellent motivator on those days when the sofa, or an extra couple of hours in bed, feels like the right choice. Why? Because I don’t want to always be the dunce in the corner.

1st December is ‘D’ Day (or ‘P’ Day)

Other than the Mysore Intensive with Yoga Manchester’s Matt Ryan last month, I’ve been getting as far as Navasana and then going into a shortened finishing sequence of Sarvangasana, Halasana, Karnipadasana, Urdhva Padmasana, Pindasana (kinda!), Sirsana, Ardha Padmasana and Savasana. This is lazy and I’m conscious that I need to work harder.

Not only am I not doing enough overall practice, I’m also avoiding asanas that I don’t like or execute badly – most notably Bhujabidasana, Kurmasana, ...

Yoga and knees – back off and avoid surgery

I’m not sure which was the biggest thrill, being able to slide quite easily into Padmasana and lift myself into Tolasana for the first time or seeing my 13 year old son (left) having a go (also for the first time) and making it look so easy!

I’m certain that years of running have taken their toll on my flexibility and that pushing too hard, too soon into Padmasana has been the cause of the pain I’ve been ...
